Reducing Damp and Mould in a Victorian Dublin Home

A young family in a 19th-century terraced house in South Dublin experienced recurring issues with damp, condensation, and mould, particularly in bedrooms and behind furniture. Despite multiple repainting and cleaning attempts, the problem kept returning.

Healthy Homes Ireland carried out a full moisture assessment, including thermal imaging and subfloor ventilation analysis. The diagnosis revealed a combination of cold bridging, high humidity, and insufficient airflow due to blocked vents and sealed chimneys.

We introduced a whole-home ventilation strategy, including positive input ventilation (PIV) and improved insulation of thermal bridges. Within a short time, the family reported better indoor air quality, fresher smells, and complete resolution of the mould problem, restoring both comfort and peace of mind.
